Lucas Torreira is an injury doubt for Arsenal’s clash with Everton after picking up a knock in the side’s 4-2 victory over Vorskla Poltava.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who completed a £26million move to north London this summer, is yet to start in the Premier League but was named in Unai Emery’s team for their opening Europa League clash on Thursday evening.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the star of the show with goals either side of the break as Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil also got on the scoresheet on a comfortable night for the Gunners at the Emirates.
Torreira, meanwhile, impressed in midfield but was forced off in the 57th minute and an ice pack was needed on his right knee after some rough treatment from Vorskla’s defenders.
Asked about the Uruguayan’s fitness after the win, Emery replied: ‘He got two hits on his leg.
‘I hope tomorrow and Saturday [he proves] he’s okay for Sunday.’
Arsenal legend Martin Keown urged Emery to start Torreira over youngster Matteo Guendouzi versus Everton this weekend.
‘Guendouzi has come into that midfield,’ he said on BT Sport.
‘You have to say he’s played with a lot of heart, a lot of spirit for a youngster, there’s ingredients in his game that might have been missing from the team.
‘But Torreira surely has to come in now and he has to play. He does things very simply, he’s not frightened to make a pass, he feeds people as well.
‘He knows what he’s good at and he’s got good ability as well. I like his tenacity.’
