Arsenal legend Martin Keown expects Arsene Wenger to offer a new contract to Jack Wilshere when he returns from his loan with Bournemouth next season.
The England international’s future at the Emirates Stadium looks uncertain ahead of the new season after years of injury problems and a far from convincing spell with the Cherries in 2016/17.
While Wilshere enjoyed more playing time with Eddie Howe’s side, it remains to be seen if Wenger will have been sufficiently impressed to put him back in his first-team plans any time soon.
The 25-year-old faces competition in midfield from the likes of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla when he returns from injury, but Keown thinks Wenger will end up keeping faith in him.
‘They certainly will offer him (Wilshere) a new contract,’ Keown said.
‘We know Jack is a special talent. His injuries have marred his career. It must be tough for Arsene Wenger to watch. How many times has he broken ankles and had operations?

‘His quality isn’t in doubt, it’s his health that’s the issue. There are some big decisions to be made but I would feel he is someone Wenger would try to keep. Somebody that he will try to support.’
Wilshere’s current Arsenal contract is due to expire at the end of next season, so it may be now or never for him to save his Gunners career.
