Manchester City are prepared to allow Sergio Aguero to join Arsenal if it means they get No.1 target Alexis Sanchez in return, according to reports.
Pep Guardiola has been chasing the Chilean forward – who scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in the Premier League last season – since before the end of the season.
Talks with Arsenal have stalled so far, with the Gunners unwilling to sell to a domestic rival, but the Daily Star claim that City have sweetened the deal by offering Aguero in exchange.
Arsenal are conscious of the fact that Sanchez only has one year remaining on his contract and will be able to negotiate a free transfer come January.
With the 28-year-old looking increasingly unlikely to sign a new deal, Arsenal are slowly coming to terms with losing their talisman though would prefer to offload him abroad.
Alexis Sanchez’s Premier League season
But Sanchez wants to remain in the Premier League rather than join Bayern Munich, leaving City as his most probable destination.
With the Chilean pushing for a move and Arsenal in need of a striker – they are currently baulking at Lyon’s £57m price tag for Alexandre Lacazette – picking up Aguero in a straight swap deal could be the perfect compromise.
The Argentine is one of the Premier League’s most explosive and devastating players, but he has not always got on particularly well with Guardiola.
He has been used as a No.9 this season, though does not enjoy leading the line on his own, and his Catalan manager has suggested his striker has not adapted especially well to his style.
But he could thrive at Arsenal, solving their striker crisis and offering world-class pedigree to placate fans after Sanchez departs.
