Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku would not be enough to fill the void left by legendary striker Didier Drogba, according to Blues hero Ray Wilkins.
The Belgium international is widely tipped to move from Everton to Stamford Bridge in a big-money move this summer, and has often been compared to Drogba in the past.
However, Wilkins, who has had spells at Chelsea as both a player and a coach, believes the Ivorian front-man is one of a kind and will prove truly irreplaceable for the west Londoners.
‘If you look at Chelsea over the last x amount of years, you’ve had the Drog,’ Wilkins told Sky Sports.
‘They will never find another Drogba, he was the best.’
Wilkins still has faith, however, that Lukaku can prove the right kind of signing for Chelsea at this moment in time, particularly if current first-choice centre-forward Diego Costa were to move on this summer.
‘Then they had Costa and now Lukaku just is a perfect fit,’ he said.
‘If Costa was to go I think he would be the perfect fit to come into Chelsea.’
